About Dr. Heidi Meck

heidimeck

I am a clinical psychologist licensed in California (PSY24356) and Hawaii (PSY-2003) with 20 years of experience. I have worked in a variety of settings, including private practice, hospitals, university counseling centers, drug and alcohol treatment centers, and community mental health clinics.

I earned my Ph.D. from the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University. Both my thesis and dissertation research focused on the development of eating disorders in men. I completed my pre-doctoral internship at University of California, Santa Cruz, and a post-doctoral fellowship with the adolescent and adult eating disorder programs at Kaiser Permanente, Oakland.

I have extensive training and experience in the treatment of eating disorders and body image issues. I am extremely passionate about empowering both women and men to cultivate healthy relationships with food and their bodies.

I also have significant experience working with clients struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, and life transitions. I strive to help clients restore balance, foster well-being, and cultivate meaning in their daily lives.

Services

Treatment approach

I see therapy as a collaboration between therapist and client. Together, we will build on your strengths, increase your insight into patterns and behaviors, and develop a therapeutic plan tailored to your specific goals. Throughout the process, I strive to maintain a warm, safe, and supportive environment for fostering self-exploration and personal growth.

I employ an integrative approach to therapy, building a trusting relationship as the foundation for growth, while incorporating techniques from the following evidence-based practices to help you to create lasting change in your life:

  • Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Time-Limited Dynamic Psychotherapy (TLDP)

  • Motivational Interviewing

  • Mindfulness and Relaxation

Frequently Asked Questions

Is therapy right for me?

People find therapy helpful for different reasons, whether it's to more effectively manage long-standing psychological issues or to find support in times of transition or difficulty. Therapy is right for anyone who wants to gain insight and create change in their lives.  If you are not sure about whether therapy can help you, I encourage you to schedule a free phone consultation so we can discuss your unique circumstances and what you are hoping to gain through therapy.

What should I expect in the first session?

The first session is the beginning of evaluation to assess the therapeutic fit. We will discuss why you are seeking therapy at this time, any previous therapy experiences you have had, and your current goals for treatment. This is also a time for you to determine if my therapeutic style works for you, and to ask about my training, experience, and how I might approach our work together. We will also discuss confidentiality, payment, scheduling, cancellations, and communication between appointments.

Do you accept insurance?

I am an out-of-network provider for all insurance companies. I can provide you with a "superbill" on a monthly basis that you can submit to your insurance company to request reimbursement. I encourage you to contact your insurance company directly with questions about your coverage. Additionally, you may be able to pay for therapy out of your pre-tax income using an HSA or FSA account.

What is your cancellation policy?

I require at least 48-hours notice for all cancelled appointments.

What forms of payment do you accept?

I accept payment via credit card. Payment is made in full at the time services are rendered.
